This past week or more has been crazy. School is starting in a few short days. We’ve been running here and there getting ready for the start of school. We had some massive clothes shopping to do for my daughter since she’s not in uniforms this year. We bought Speed’s uniform shirts long ago, so that wasn’t even a concern… what is a concern is the fact that he is so skinny. He’s not unhealthy-skinny, just impossible-to-shop-for-skinny. He’s seven years old and I have to shop in the toddler section for his shorts. It’s hard to find uniform shorts in the toddler section… really hard. Needless to say, I still need to somehow find some school shorts for him. I really don’t want to have to put him in last year’s 3T shorts. Yes, 3T fit on my 7 year old. They are a bit snug though!
Most of the school supplies are bought. We already delivered Speed’s to his teacher, so that’s one less worry on the first day. Today I did get an additional supply list from GG’s teachers, so I’ll still need to brave the stores for that stuff, too.
We went to both orientations. GG’s was big and hectic. It’s just crazy because her middle school is huge… bigger than my high school and jr. high combined. Heck, you could probably also add in my elementary school. Despite it’s size, the school is academically strong and has much to offer her. She was a little nervous, but I’m sure she’ll be okay. We walked the halls, from one class to the other to help her find her way. She did see one student that she already knew. It was a girl that she used to take karate with, so maybe that familiarity will help her. I’m sure she’ll see other familiar faces, and I know that she’ll make new friends during her first week.
Speed’s orientation was great. It was nice to see the other kiddos and moms. He had a bout of paralyzing shyness. Luckily it didn’t last too long and he had fun catching up with his old buddies. The new teacher in his cluster seems very nice and very cheerful. He was so happy to see his old teachers, and ran to them with big hugs. I really am so fortunate that he has such wonderful teachers. I couldn’t ask for better teachers for him. It is such a relief that he’s still in the same cluster.
I’ve been trying to adjust Bam’s schedule slowly, so it’s not such a shock next week. Waking up and actually getting active so early has been a weird change for him. He’s not sure when to nap and when to eat, but he’s taking it better than I imagined he would. He is definitely thrown off though… the other day he took a 5+ hour nap… that ended up in him being up for most of the night. I feared him switching his days and nights again, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The schedule change has been rough on me. I’m used to using nights to do things that I need to do. Not to mention the fact that I’ve enjoyed leisurely snuggling in bed with my family in the mornings.
Oh, and in the midst of all this crazy running, my car started making weird scary thumping noises. My tire was bulging and obviously needed to be replaced.
I’ll miss having my older two around, but part of me is looking forward to the calm and the quiet of school.
